Workshops in Bali: Discover the most outstanding options

Five Arts Studio is one of my favourite places to visit in Bali 🙂 filled with absolutely lovely teachers and gentle people, this place is located in the midst of nature and teaches batik, wood carving and keliki! I’ve been to the studio on both my trips for Keliki painting. I was lucky to be taught by the artist Nyoman Juli who got me to love Keliki enough to come back home and continue. These teachers go above and beyond! They are gentle, patient and remember you. They teach you technique and guide you, while allowing you to learn and figure it out. This time Nyoman Juli taught me to use the bamboo brush technique and I was beyond thrilled! I look forward to coming back and doing more! There’s also a lovely crystal and art shop attached to the studio that’s worth visiting! Thank you Nyoman Juli and the team at Five Arts Studio for all your kindness:)

Did a full day doing batik then wood carving. The batik was alot harder than expected but we were guided very patiently by the team. The wood carving was also a challenge but still ended up with a decent final product. The team looked after us all day and even offered a quiet area to rest before the next class started. The area is surrounded by rice fields, lush green gardens and different types of artwork. Such a tranquil and creative space to get yiur art on. Would love to come back!

This was one the highlights of my trip to Ubud! It was a very engaging and creative activity. It was wonderful to learn about this traditional art and have the chance to make my own Batik creation! Dika and the rest of the staff were so patient and helpful making sure our Batik design came out as we wanted. They are excellent artists and made the experience so enjoyable with their warmth and hospitality. I highly recommend this workshop!

​I visited Five Arts Studio in Keliki for my very first batik painting experience, and it was the highlight of my trip to Bali. If you are a beginner like me, this is the perfect place to learn. ​ The studio is set in a beautiful, traditional family compound surrounded by rice fields, which makes the whole process feel incredibly peaceful. I started with a blank white cloth and was guided through sketching, applying the hot wax (which is trickier than it looks but very soothing!), and finally the coloring. The artists here – like Juli, Dika, and Ajus – are so patient. They don’t rush you at all. Since it was my first time, I was nervous about messing up the wax lines, but they were right there to help me touch up my work and give me tips on how to blend the dyes for a professional finish. ​ ​They make you feel like a real artist, even if you’ve never picked up a brush. ​ Result: I walked away with a beautiful, vibrant piece of art that I actually made myself. ​If you’re in the Tegallalang or Ubud area, skip the big crowded classes and come here to Keliki. It’s a calm, creative, and truly Balinese experience!

I had such a great experience at this studio! Chandra and Ari are the kindest hosts! The process of making our jewelry was so easy, fun and smooth and they helped us out along the way. We chose our ring we wanted to recreate, and Chandra walked us through the entire process. Doing this class was so special and memorable, I am grateful to have created such a unique story in my jewelry collection. Thank you Chandra and Ari! You are the best!

Ubud Art Lessons – Silver ring making workshop! It was genuinely SO much fun, there are so many options to choose from, the staff are incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful every step of the way! You are involved in the whole process from the heating and tempering of the metal, the rolling and the engraving. It is totally up to you! You get a demo piece to practice your design on before going ahead and doing the real thing! There are a variety of designs that you can choose from or if you have your own design in mind, just show the team and they will do everything to support you. Special shout out to Bima who really supported us throughout the entire process and really helped us on the engraving! Ari and the whole team are so lovely! Once complete, the rings are polished and look incredible. Price point is great too and material is real 925 Silver. Would really recommend this activity especially at Ubud Art Lessons for anyone visiting Ubud. What a lovely souvenir to take home – thanks guys ☺️

Absolutely amazing place ! Starting from the very easy booking experience thanks to Ari and being able to tailor the experience to our wishes. She then taught us everything about the offerings and Balinese culture. We were able to ask any and all questions we had in a very open and honest conversation thanks to he. We then proceeded the fun process of creating our own ring. We ended up mostly with an idea, hope and dreams, which Bima then turned into actual art with his finishing touches. Ari and Bima are such lovely people, who have made this experience a life long memory we are able to cherish. Genuinely cannot put into words how grateful we are for these two angles and being able to learn and experience it all !!!!!

We visited Ubud Art Lessons to celebrate our birthday and our honeymoon by making our own jewelry, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From the very first moment, the service was spectacular. The activity is incredibly fun, but at the same time, it brings a sense of peace; it turned out to be super relaxing and therapeutic. The staff is unbeatable: attentive, patient, and with wonderful energy, even more Birma. Without a doubt, this has been one of the most special moments of our trip. Good place to learn music instruments or learn how to sing. They have good teachers and good equipments. Now they also support online learning and private course at home.

Yesterday was my daughter’s trial class at Indice, and we had such a great experience that we decided to join right away! The teacher, Miss Yemi, was so kind and professional. She made my daughter feel comfortable and excited to learn. Looking forward to seeing her grow in her vocal skills. Highly recommend Indice for music classes!

Mr Yuyu.. what can I not say about you! Amazing man, genuinely a great person. Spent around 3 hours here! The place is MASSIVE, so many different styles and sizes. The prices are clearly displayed, they have a no haggle policy… which for these prices in comparison to other shops we see is genuinely rock bottom. Directly from the source. We picked up extra stuff simply because the prices was soo good! Yuyu had suitcases and bags there for sale. So we filled a case purchased from them and he even kindly wrapped and packed and arranged delivery to our hotel in seminyak. They also kindly added hooks etc so we could wall mount when home. I would highly recommend, infact im pretty sure it would be cheaper to travel here and purchase including travel then It would be to buy at the smaller shops which charge 5x + more. Huge shop with extremely fair prices in comparison to most other wood carving places. The owner, Komang, explained everything and we had a good chat for over an hour. Kind and friendly owner that deserves the most 🙂 I am sure you will find something that will make you a very happy customer. I highly recommend you give it a visit!

I bought a beautiful wood panel there after walking around this huge shop for one hour – a small part was chipped so the workers repaired it on the spot perfectly. Very professional. Komang (the owner) explained everything to me: the type of wood, where the pieces are carved, the story of his shop, etc. Eventually I stayed several hours and I had a blast. I am coming home with a beautiful piece of art and good memories 🤩

We went to carving class, and as for beginers we were really happy about results. They have already prepared molds to begin with, but you can disscuss and bring your ideas and come to final decision. Our process took about 2-3 hours, everything explained, guided, advised. We really enjoyed process and final results! Additionally they have huge warehouse of statues, carvings, kitchen tools that is made out of wood Most suprisingly that those marvels have been made only by hand and chisel!

I just went here to browse but I thoughroughly enjoyed this place! Some statues were absolutely massive, insanely detailed. They have many different carvings. Absolutely beautiful pieces.

My favorite place in Ubud for souvenirs and local art. They have a HUGE selection of different craftsmen’s art. Prices are very reasonable and the family operating it is also very sweet 🙂 They also do woodcarving classes which I haven’t yet participated in. Definitely going back for more amazing Balinese art☺️

Wood carving class was a blast. The people are so honest and friendly. We ended up spending few hours there. It is an amazing experience especially if it’s a first time trying wood carving. The teacher was so patient and helped a lot guiding every step. They have some blanks prepared and ready for you to work on. We asked if we could make a dolphin and they arranged that for us too. They also have a big variety of amazing items to purchase that are cheaper than in the markets.

I had such a great experience shopping at Bintara! The items are super unique and not the usual stuff you see everywhere. Everything feels high quality and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, which made the whole shopping experience even better. You can really feel they care about their customers. What I love most is that they have a beautiful garden connected to the back of the store where you can enjoy a Bali spa with professional masseuses. It’s such a relaxing hidden gem! Definitely a one-stop shopping place that saves you time while you’re in Bali. Highly recommended if you’re looking for quality, uniqueness, and great service all in one place.

Was there early today and proper service. And the massages were proper. Things to buy for you home after your stay in Bali🫶🏽❤️❤️❤️❤️. I would recommend them.

Stopped by this beautiful little shop during my time in Bali and ended up leaving with far more than I planned to. The handcrafted pieces are gorgeous, thoughtfully made, and feel truly special. I’ve done the Silversmith Jewellery Making Class in Ubud twice now — once in February and again in April — and absolutely loved it both times! Such a fun, interactive and affordable experience. It was fascinating getting hands-on and learning the whole process of making jewellery from start to finish. The staff were patient, helpful and made the class enjoyable for everyone, regardless of skill level. There’s something really special about creating your own piece of jewellery and walking away wearing something you made yourself. Highly recommend this experience if you’re visiting Ubud! ✨✨

My fiancé and I decided to craft our wedding bands here, and we couldn’t be happier! We booked this silversmithing class at the very last minute the night before, and they managed to squeeze us into their schedule. The staff was incredibly kind, cheerful, and welcoming. Making the rings took about an hour and a half, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. First, we chose our designs from ready-made templates, which can be fully customized and altered if there’s anything you want to change. Then, the real crafting began! It was a fantastic experience that we will never forget. Our silver rings will forever carry the beautiful memory of Bali. Thank you so much!

My husband and I came to this workshop yesterday, and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience! From start to finish, we were guided through the silver craftsmanship process and the team were really helpful when it came to creating the final pieces. We designed and created a ring for each other and were over the moon with the final results! I enjoyed the initial design process and my husband had lots of fun pumping the fire to melt the silver! The best mask maker in Bali! The craftsman is a third generation member from a family of artisans, and is extremely talented, creating beautiful pieces. If you are in Bali and staying near Ubud, I highly recommend stopping by his workshop in Mas Village if you’re looking for an authentic Balinese mask and want the best quality you can get. His families legacy is truly incredible and the quality of detail in his work is outstanding!

My husband and I were in search of an authentic Balinese mask, and we couldn’t have found a more perfect place. From the moment we stepped into the workshop, we were captivated. Tucked away in a humble home studio, we met a third-generation wood carver whose artistry is nothing short of extraordinary. The walls were lined with photographs and masterpieces that he and his family have crafted over the years — each piece a testament to the deep cultural reverence for Balinese wood carving. While we were there, I Komang himself brought the masks to life, donning a few and performing traditional Balinese dance movements. He shared the cultural significance and symbolism behind each mask, turning our visit into a truly immersive and unforgettable experience. We ended up purchasing a beautifully detailed monkey mask, carved by his father, Mr. I Wayan Muka. Every piece in the shop is signed and entirely one of a kind — true works of art meant to be cherished. Thank you, I Komang, for the warm welcome, the stories, and the memories. This mask will be a treasured reminder of our time in Bali for years to come.

Great experience, the quality of masques are really good. You have a lot of choice. And the seller is very friendly. Just make sure to negotiate the price to pay the just price.

The workshop at Parallel Universe was amazing! I had done a silversmithing workshop once before in Ubud but theirs really exceeded my expectations! The silversmiths/staff went above and beyond helping me materialising my ideated design. It was so much fun! I learned a lot and the outcome is exactly what I had imagined/wished for. 10/10 100% recommend them and booking this experience for your Bali holiday especially if you’re staying around Unud! The workshop is only 350k IDR and using brass for my I only paid around an additional 370k IDR for material. So worth it!! Best souvenir ever you can bring home from your Bali holiday!!

I had such a beautiful experience at Parallel Universe during their jewellery making session. Creating my own ring was something really special, and the whole process felt very personal and memorable. Bli Kadek, the craftsman who guided me, was incredibly patient and kind. He took the time to carefully explain every step and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the process. You can really feel his passion for the craft, and it made the experience even more meaningful. Richard also made a very thoughtful gesture during the payment after finding out that I was celebrating my birthday. It was such a small but touching moment that truly warmed my heart. Thank you to the team for making my birthday feel extra special. I left not only with a ring that I made with my own hands, but also with a really lovely memory. We booked the VIP session at Parallel Universe to make some jewellery and it was a fantastic experience! Nyoman was our dedicated silversmith and he was great! All of the staff were very welcoming and very helpful. I wanted to make some cufflinks for my husband as he doesn’t wear much jewellery and they said they hadn’t had anyone make cufflinks before, so it was a fun learning experience all round! My husband made me a pendant to match a bangle he made me on our last trip to Bali. We got to pump the gas for the melting of the silver and crank the machine to flatten the silver to the right width to use. We had a lot of fun and made some high quality jewellery we will treasure forever.

I had an absolutely amazing experience at Parallel Universe. It was my first time making a silver ring, and I loved every moment of it. Huge thanks to my instructor, Kadek– he was supportive, inspiring, and also really funny, which made the whole process even more enjoyable. I came in with zero design in mind, just pure expression, and the result turned out so much better than I expected. I was so thrilled with my first ring that I actually booked another session the day before my flight home. This time I made a bracelet and a couple more rings. The atmosphere is creative, welcoming, and you always feel guided and encouraged. I also want to highlight their beautiful jewelry shop. I picked up a few pieces there as souvenirs and gifts… and of course something for myself too. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique, hands-on creative experience. It is truly exceptional and I will definitely be back when I’m in Bali again!

Wayang and his brother were very friendly and funny. They gave me lots of freedom in my design and were able to help a lot with the complicated parts, whilst still making me feel very involved in the process. I was able to make this beautiful cat ring with my cat’s name on the inside of the band. Definitely recommend 🖤🐈

I had a great experience at Ubud Bali Silver Class! I came twice, the first time I got to remake one of their cool example rings, and the second time I approached them with a custom design to make a gift for my sister. The silversmiths here are very talented! And very friendly and helpful and it was good to talk to you all as well. Hope to see you all next time I come to Bali! Suksma!

Wayan & Korman were awesome. So easy to deal with and nothing was a problem. Hubby had twisted bronze wire in middle of his ring with engraving on the inside. Amazing experience from Bali. We enjoyed every minute of silver class in Palace Silver Jewelry. We made nice rings from the beginning of the process till the end. We had fun as well because we discovered that it’s not so easy to make a nice ring. We can recommend.

A friend recommended this batik class, and booking through WhatsApp was quick and easy. Our instructor was so welcoming, friendly, and full of great chats. There were three different ways to do the class (freehand, tracing a template, or just painting a pre-waxed design). We chose the template option, traced our design, and moved to the waxing station. Using the canting tool is trickier than it looks, but the instructor was patient and took the time to teach us. As we worked he shared stories about the history of batik. During the painting phase, he gave us advice on colour selection and helping us see how the final piece would look. The whole 2hour workshop was so much fun. Though the venue could be a little tidier, it didn’t take away from our experience at all. We learned a lot, had a great time, and ended up with gorgeous batik art to take home!

Highly recommend this if you are in Ubud. I was there for over 3 hours and really enjoyed the whole process, there is no time limit, Nyoman even said I could come back and finish it another day if I wanted. Nyoman and his son were really friendly and helpful. I was there alone for most of the class and it was a really peaceful, meditative process.

This batik class was a nice way to spend a couple hours. Wayan and his family are sweet and funny. If you are a perfectionist with minimal drawing skills pick an easy premade design.

Loved my batik class! My teacher was great, and his mom was such a lovely lady. I really enjoyed the atmosphere — being in a real local home where people were going about their daily life, like preparing the offerings. He offers different options for the class. He explained that I could choose between three styles, and I picked the easy one 😄 — just coloring. I knew I would finish faster, but if you choose the other options, like doing the wax process, it takes longer. He was very clear that you pay for the experience of making the batik you choose — the time depends on that. For me, the coloring option took about two hours. I love my gecko! 🦎

Great experience for whole family. Many choices: 1) blank canvas, unique original 2) choose from many artworks to trace onto canvas 3) choose an already waxed canvas and color only He is very patient and explains very well what to do. Expect 2-3 hours, but could be shorter or longer depending how artistic you choose to be. It was a very easy relaxing class. Bring water. You will work in the shade for the waxing, but paint in the sun because the sun helps with the paint coloring. If you plan to do this early in your trip he may offer to be your driver as well. WhatsApp is best way to contact him.

Highly recommend! Our teacher was patient, knowledgeable, and friendly. We took about three hours to do our pieces and appreciated the process-orientation of the instruction. This was a perfect, relaxing, unhurried way to spend a rainy morning. We coordinated last minute and they were quick to respond.

I can highly recommend this experience as was such fun and got to go home with my first batik Nyoman was an excellent teacher and you can choose to do the painting only which last about 1 hour. – priced accordingly or participate in the entire procoss from start to finish which lasts about 3 hours and is priced accordingly also which I m going to come back and do tomorrow A definite 5 star rating
