Great bulk health food store. A wide variety of superfoods and other daily/cooking items. You can bring your own glass jars and take in bulk to reduce waste or get a paper-bag. Staff are very friendly. The prices are very good as well!

I cannot say enough good things about this store. We ordered online with no problems. We had short WhatsApp chats with both the owner Silv and her staff, all were extremely helpful and friendly. The prices are *extremely* competitive. I wish I’d found this place years ago, I won’t be shopping anywhere else in Bali for healthy products in bulk, delivered (via GoSend).

One of the affordable options while keeping it 100% sustainable to buy refills for house cleaning and personal care. I love the fact that they actually reuse old bottles and refill that for free. Must go for refills of shampoo conditioner cleaning detergent and others all made with zero waste and organic ingredients. To improve – stocking of all variants, and the slippery floor can be a bit tricky!

Great place for those looking for refilling their eco-friendly needs like shampoo, soap, detergent, etc. They are selling in bulk and buyers need to bring their own bottle/container, so no more single use plastic.

Frequently asked questions about zero waste bulk stores in Bali

What exactly is a zero waste bulk store?

Zero waste bulk stores in Bali offer a way to purchase everyday products – such as grains, nuts, seeds, oils, and household cleaners – without packaging. Customers bring their own containers, and the store staff measures out the desired amount. This significantly reduces plastic waste and promotes a more sustainable approach to shopping.

Do I really need to bring my own containers?

Yes, absolutely. It’s the core principle of these stores. You can bring any clean container you have – jars, bottles, tubs – as long as they are suitable for holding food or liquids. Many stores even offer discounted containers for sale if you don’t already have some. Don't forget to ensure your containers are thoroughly cleaned and dried before use.

What kind of products are typically available?

You’ll generally find a good selection of dry goods like rice, lentils, quinoa, spices, tea, coffee, and various nuts and seeds. Many stores also stock liquid products like olive oil, coconut oil, honey, vinegar, shampoos, conditioners, and dish soaps. The specific offerings vary depending on the store’s focus and supplier relationships, but they often prioritize locally sourced products whenever possible.

Are the products organic and sustainably sourced?

Many, but not all, zero waste bulk stores in Bali prioritize organic and sustainable sourcing. It’s crucial to ask the store about the origin of their products and their supplier’s practices. Look for certifications like USDA Organic or information about farms that utilize regenerative agriculture techniques. Transparency is key – a good store will be open about its sourcing.

    How does the pricing work?

Prices are typically sold by weight, rather than by individual unit price. You pay for the quantity you purchase, which can sometimes be more economical than buying pre-packaged goods. The store will usually have a scale to weigh your containers, and the price will be calculated based on the weight and the product’s cost per kilogram. It’s a good idea to bring a small weighing scale to ensure accuracy.

What about hygiene and food safety?

Zero waste bulk stores understand the importance of hygiene and food safety. They generally use food-grade containers for weighing and dispensing products. Staff members are trained in proper handling procedures to minimize contamination. However, it's the customer's responsibility to ensure their containers are clean before filling them. Look for stores that demonstrate a commitment to strict cleaning protocols.

Are there any specific rules I should be aware of?

Most stores have a few simple rules to maintain hygiene and ensure fair practices. These might include limitations on the size of containers allowed, restrictions on bringing outside food or liquids, and a requirement to thoroughly clean your containers before filling them. It's always best to ask about the specific rules before your first visit.

What if I need advice on using zero waste products?

Many zero waste bulk stores are staffed by people passionate about sustainable living. They’re often happy to offer advice on using their products, such as tips for making your own natural cleaning solutions or recommending appropriate products for specific needs. Don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations – they can be a valuable resource.

How can I reduce my carbon footprint when shopping at a bulk store?

Shopping at zero waste bulk stores helps reduce your carbon footprint by minimizing packaging waste, reducing transportation emissions (especially if the store uses local suppliers), and often encourages the purchase of products with a lower environmental impact. Consider bringing your own bag to carry your purchases and walk or cycle to the store if possible. Support stores that prioritize local sourcing.

Are there any certifications or labels to look for?

While not all stores will have them, look for certifications like Fair Trade, Demeter Certified (for organic products), or Plastic Neutral certifications. These labels can provide assurance that the products and the store’s practices align with your values. Paying attention to product origin and traceability is also important.
