We had an amazing morning at Pemulan cooking school in Ubud and couldn’t recommend it more. The experience was hands-on from start to finish. We began with a visit to the local market, where we learned about the fresh produce, herbs, and spices used in Balinese cooking. From there, we headed to the farm to hand-pick the vegetables we’d be using in our dishes, which made the whole experience feel even more authentic. Our instructor, Nari, was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and had a wicked sense of humour that kept everyone laughing throughout the class. She made the cooking easy to follow while sharing plenty of interesting insights into Balinese culture and cuisine. The food was absolutely delicious, and there was so much of it that no one left hungry! If you’re looking for an authentic, fun, and memorable experience in Ubud, this cooking class is a must. Highly recommended!

Our experience started with a tour of a local market before heading to their farm, where we handpicked fresh produce and learned about the ingredients used in Balinese cuisine. A special thank you to Nyoman, who was amazing throughout the day. He was incredibly informative about Balinese culture and had a great sense of humour that made the experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for an authentic cultural and culinary experience in Bali.

What a wonderful day we had! It started with a farm tour where we picked out ingredients then we made 6 dishes over a few hours. It was really fun and I would highly recommend it! We got to keep a little recipe book so we can make it when we get home! It was really great. Katy

This was a fantastic experience. From the market tour to the farm tour to the actual cooking experience. Junita was the best!! Very knowledgeable and really gave us a great time. We cooked 7 dishes and did almost everything by ourselves under her very expert guidance. Would definitely recommend for anyone who actually wants to learn the skill. This is a must do!

Me and my partner Chris had a great time at Pemulan Bali Farm Cooking School. We started at the local market where our guide Ayu showed us the different ingredients we were going to use in our dishes. After the market we made our way to the cooking school. The setting was a beautiful organic farm where they grow all kinds of fruit and vegetables which we hand picked to use in our meals. The cooking itself was great fun and the dishes we cooked were absolutely delicious. We had a great group experience and met some very nice people whom we shared the meals with. Thank you for Ayu, Juni and the rest of the team at Pemulan Bali for making this a memorable experience. We will definitely recreate the recipes we learned at Home and highly recommend everyone to try Pemulan Bali Farm Cooking School . Thank you again! 😊

Had a really great experience at Pemulan Bali Farm Cooking School. The amount of food was generous, so definitely come hungry. One of the best parts was walking through the farm to pick vegetables and learning about the different ingredients before cooking. Everything we made was packed with flavor, and even the dessert was excellent. The class was also very well organized and efficient. The instructors spoke great English, explained the cooking techniques clearly, and were always ready to help if someone was struggling. Note, they have an incentive for reviews by giving a wooden spatula. Even without that I’d still honestly recommend this place. It was a genuinely fun and memorable experience in Ubud.

What an amazing experience! Early pick up at 7:30 to experience the food market before having a guided tour of the farm and picking the fresh, organic vegetables we cooked with. My guide bought fresh fruit from the market for me to try and he was so friendly with a great sense of humour. There was so much food and we took the leftovers home to enjoy later that week. I can’t wait to try some of my new recipe skills back in the UK 😁

Badung Market is a handy place to stop if you want a wide range of fresh goods in one spot. I liked that I could find meat, vegetables, and fruit all under the same roof, which made shopping simple. It also felt fairly neat for a busy market, and having parking available was a plus.

One of the most lively traditional markets in the heart of Denpasar. The building has improved a lot and now feels more organized and comfortable. The market is very complete, with areas for food, daily groceries, souvenirs, and Balinese herbs. There is also a basement parking area, which makes visiting much easier. The market is huge and active from morning until night. You can find vegetables, fish, meat, spices, clothing, household goods, and souvenirs across two large buildings. Every corner feels full of color and local life. The vendors are very friendly and always greet you with warm smiles. In the afternoon and evening, there is a food street with many options, and at the back area you can even find thrifting spots. Parking is spacious for both cars and motorbikes. Highly recommended for shopping, food hunting, and experiencing local Balinese culture

This is a place to visit if you’re looking for a cultural experience. As many of the lower reviews mention, yes there are rats, the smell can be unpleasant, and we did have two ladies follow us around, which made the experience less enjoyable. It’s not a tourist-style market where visitors typically shop directly, and much of the produce is similar throughout. However, if you know what to expect, it’s a great way to see a part of Balinese daily life and how food is handled locally. I recommend eating before you arrive as you may loose your appetite.

I first visited this market more than 30 years ago on my very first trip to Bali, so it was fascinating to return and find that, in many ways, it hasn’t changed at all. We arrived early in the morning looking for decorative umbrellas and flags to take home for a friend, and the market was still slowly coming to life. It was relatively quiet, with vendors setting up for the day and fresh produce arriving throughout the different levels of the market. This is a true local market experience and definitely not for the faint-hearted. Between the smells, the heat and the crowds that build throughout the day, it can be quite overwhelming. On the morning we visited, none of the fans appeared to be working and it was already incredibly hot. I actually felt quite unwell at one point, but one of the market guides was wonderful, helping both my driver and I source exactly what we were looking for, finding bottled water and assisting with translations and negotiations. The bargaining process was fun, with plenty of friendly back-and-forth between us and the stall owner. I was fairly determined not to overpay for items I knew I could find elsewhere, although Bali prices have definitely increased over the years and haggling doesn’t seem quite as easy as it once was. If you’re looking for a genuine local shopping experience, this market has almost everything imaginable spread across multiple levels and is well worth a visit.

It is a fish market located on the south side of the airport. Compared to Toyosu in Tokyo or the Sydney Fish Market, it lacks cleanliness and feels quite primitive, so quite a few people might hesitate to step inside. However, the quality of what is sold there—from shrimp and squid to a wide variety of fish—is genuinely good. I bought one kilogram of large shrimp and a grouper, which is considered a high-end fish in Japan. The shrimp cost 110K IDR, and the grouper was 35K IDR. I had the shrimp and fish I purchased cooked at a nearby warung. The total cooking fee for both was 32K IDR. The charcoal-grilled shrimp and fish were simply crazy.

Fresh Fish Market direct from the sea. Fisher deliver directly in the morning and afternoon. So you will always get fresh seafood with reasonable price here 4 crab 400k total around 5kg. 2 red snapper for 120k 1 kg jumbo vaname for 80k Get your fresh seafood cooked or grilled around. I choose tepi pantai for the vibe

To have a seafood banquet by the sea at sunset without blowing your wallet, is to just buy the fresh seafood in here at 3 pm, then head to a restaurant you trust to cook it up perfectly. I promise, in about an hour and a half, you’ll be pleased. Trust your instincts in buying the seafood & choosing the right restaurant The seafood I bought was always fresh and they end up soo good.. All the seller I’ve brought from always given us their best prices, don’t be shy to bargain. A fish market is smelly so beware loll. I always had a great time in here ^3^

Fresh seafood, but not for everyone. We bought huge prawns for 200k IDR/kg and lobsters for 350k IDR/kg — everything was very fresh. Be aware: the smell is very strong, so if you’re sensitive, this place might not be for you. Buy quickly and leave. Cash only. Nearby, you can have your seafood cooked for around 20k IDR/kg, which is very convenient.

A lot of choice of fish and shellfish. The place is quite tight. Was there around 20u when they were closing down, so not many stands were open. After buying fish and shrimps: got them bbq at the café nearby with a tasty maribade. Very good. If you don’t care about the environment this is good alternative to the nearby restaurants with beach view..

Not Worth the Trip – Only If You’re Already Nearby I do NOT recommend making a special trip here. Only visit if you’re already in the area and curious to take a quick look. The place feels quite outdated, with many shops closed and the remaining ones mostly selling the same kind of items. If you enjoy bargaining, you can try your luck here — just state your price clearly from the start. If they accept, great. If not, move on quickly. Overall, there’s nothing particularly unique or exciting. If you’re looking for old markets for clothes or souvenirs, there are definitely much better options in the region that are more worth your time.

I travelled from Ubud to Sukawati Art Market using Trans Metro Dewata. You can pay easily with QRIS or e-money cards like E-Money, Flazz, etc. The market itself is clean, and the prices are quite affordable as long as you’re good at bargaining. Most vendors will go down to about half of their initial price. I arrived around 10 AM and many stalls were still just opening, but there were already plenty of options to browse. Overall, it’s a great place to shop, just make sure you negotiate!

It’s a local art market and please note the keyword «local» so it won’t have air con or that shiny floor or modern wall. Compare to other art market I have been in Indonesia, let me tell you that this place is so much better and tidier. In an asian local market it’s very common to : have a «not spacious» place, lots of sellers offering you their item, they can get a bit clingy to get you to buy their good, but it’s completely ok to just smile walk on or just completely ignore it. If you are interested in any item, you MUST bargain, that’s the unwritten rule. Don’t feel bad to bargain the heck out of it as this is normal. The issue is if you are not used to this environment especially one that is used to western market with the quiet and friendly seller, this will be like culture shock to you guys. Other than that, if you can keep your poker face, stand your ground while walking around this spot you could actually score a serious savings on any art works that they sell for double, tripple or more on place in Ubud or other upmarket art shop. So people before you mark this place as one star, remember if you have a «soft heart» then skip this place and stick with the upmarket gallery and pay the luxury tax, but if you are adventurous, can stand your ground, bargain addict and have that poker face on then this is your place 🙂

Sukawati Market is a very large shopping area filled with tightly packed shops selling almost everything you can imagine. From T-shirts, wooden carvings, fridge magnets, handbags, souvenirs, paintings, and traditional Balinese crafts, there are plenty of options to explore. If you enjoy street shopping and bargaining, this place can be quite interesting. The key thing to remember here is that negotiation is essential to get a good price. Vendors usually quote a much higher price at first. For example, I bought around 10 dresses. The initial price quoted was 1,000k IDR, but after negotiating I brought it down to 300k IDR, and we finally settled at 370k IDR. So bargaining really makes a big difference when shopping here. Unfortunately, I visited the market at the last minute on my final day in Bali, so I didn’t have enough time to explore properly. Because of that, I couldn’t shop as much as I wanted. My suggestion for visitors is to plan at least 3–4 hours if you want to explore the market comfortably and negotiate prices without rushing. There are also a few street shopping stalls outside the market, which are worth checking out if you have time. Plan your visit well to enjoy the experience fully.

I had such a great experience shopping at Bintara! The items are super unique and not the usual stuff you see everywhere. Everything feels high quality and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, which made the whole shopping experience even better. You can really feel they care about their customers. What I love most is that they have a beautiful garden connected to the back of the store where you can enjoy a Bali spa with professional masseuses. It’s such a relaxing hidden gem! Definitely a one-stop shopping place that saves you time while you’re in Bali. Highly recommended if you’re looking for quality, uniqueness, and great service all in one place.

Nice little market with huge selection of local handicrafts. There were lots of purses, paintings, hats, and traditional clothing. Remember, the prices quoted to foreigners are upto 80% high, so bargain accordingly. (We were quoted 150k for a Saroong but we managed to get it for 40k, almost 70% off, paintings initially quoted for 1.5 mil were down to 600k) While we can bargain, it is good to keep interest of these people. We did give tip to them which made them quite happy. «Words of mouth» travel faster than light here, soon after the tip news people started offering good prices.

Traditional art and handicraft market.. where you can purchase lots of local Balinese arts and handycrafts. But, we have to be careful when dealing with the Seller.. as the price is negotiable.. and depends on how good is our negotiations skill. Good place to hunts for arts and handcrafts.

For art lovers, you can pick up some decent prints for a reasonable price. Other than that, its just rows and rows of stalls selling souverniers…..all stalls selling much the same items. T-shirts, bags, handbags, wooden items etc. Be prepared for a bit of hustling as you walk pass the stalls. And be aware that they hike up the price. So be patient…. dont buy from the first stall you go to. Have a good look around, and get a ‘feel’ for what the real price of the items are

I recently visited Pasar Badung Baru and while they have all the essential items like fresh fruits, veggies, and chicken, I was disappointed with the lack of hygiene. The market is quite dirty and it would be great if they could take better care of cleanliness. However, if you can look past that, it’s a great place to get all your grocery needs in one spot

It’s weird coming here after a few years before it called with different name. It was Tiara Grosir which is an insanely-famous ‘supermarket’ back in 00s, now it just called ‘market’. It’s like a usual wet market, all kind of meat, spices, fruits and veggies were sold here so don’t expect supermaket-kind-of cleanliness but I can assure you the freshness of all the goods here. Bringing back all the when-i-was-a-kid memories really.

A huge local market with one building full of vegetables, fruits, meat, spices, and all kinds of other food items. Don’t expect a fancy place; I think it was once an old parking garage that’s been converted into a market. However, it’s well-organized, with sections fully dedicated to fruit, another to vegetables, and so on. Mostly locals shop here. The other building offers a wide variety of souvenirs, all at the lowest prices you can find in Bali. You can find bags, plates, kitchen accessories, bracelets, hair accessories, utensils, and so much more. Be prepared to bargain, even though the prices are already very low by Bali standards. You can still negotiate further if you wish.

Watch out for aunty touts at the entrance who will follow you into the market in an attempt to earn commission from bringing you to the shops. The place is almost devoid of visitors and many of the shop lots were closed. Lots of wooden handicrafts and clothes. Paintings are mostly low quality. You’ll find better cheap paintings in Sukawati art market. Bought two cotton batik shorts (180k bargained to 50k each), fridge magnets 10k each and a traditional shirt for 275k which sells for more than 500k at Krisna Oleh2 Bali. The place is generally not conducive for shopping due to narrow walkway and poor ventilation. Many Shops in the building and vicinity sell traditional cloth for sewing.

Busy market for locals, decent prices for clothes and items. Got scammed for some Nasi here as thought it was included with the Satay. Was some really nice friendly people outside who helped us order some deserts/martabak. Plenty of seating around but might have been quieter as we got there late.

One of the busy markets, that you can ignore unless you are looking for a specific item. Mostly recycled clothes and various household goods. Good place for stone rings and basic jewelry. Traffic can be challenging from airport. Not on my list of priorities as a market to visit.

Try their night market. Have a lot of foods and they sell everything. My favorite still «Soto Pak Ketut» park your motorcycle or your car. And enjoy your night in here. Be carefull of scam. Things that I dont like in here are their trash. I guess they need to add more trash bin.

This place is a local food market that we discovered by accident. Do not be decieved by how it looks. We tried mutiple foods here from a variety of vendors and everything was amazing and very cheap. If your in the area and want a quick bite definitely stop by. The people here were all so friendly and helptful!

Really nice food market. The stall owners are super friendly. Little language barrier but with body language you will make it work. Babi Guling skin was not so crispy but everything else awesome.

Great place to go and try some new things for dinner. Arrived at about 7pm, stayed for an hour or so. Two of us ate til we were full and spent less than 100k. Klepon, bakso, crepes, sate.. one of the cleanest food markets I’ve been to; I felt very welcome there. Some tourists, but plenty of locals. Everyone is friendly. Food only, but near to plenty of shops if you’re after something else.

I’m looking for this new style of Pasar Senggol. It wasn’t great experience, I bought to one of Bigul’s stall and yes we are in Bali they were more friendly to foreigner rather than the local, not the best bigul I ever tried. This night market lacks of trash bin, people leave their plastic on the table so you have to clean those up by yourself EWWW Some local will cut your line without feeling regret. Do not buy the traditional snack with coconut when you coming around 7pm or above. Update: I bought fish satay and it was absolutely not a fresh fish and I got diarrhea.
